2026 Green Circle Boss

Marcus Mitchell Named the 2026 Green Circle Boss for theGreat Florida Cattle Drive

Marcus Mitchell is a third-generation Florida Cracker who proudly carries on his family’s farming and ranching traditions. Rooted in hard work, faith, and respect for the land, Marcus represents the very heart of Florida’s cattle and agricultural heritage.

Marcus operates a cow-calf cattle operation alongside diversified farming, including watermelons, peanuts, hay, and grass seed. Whether it’s calving season or watching crops emerge from the soil, he finds purpose in seeing the results of dedication and stewardship—helping preserve both the land and the legacy of those who came before.

While much of his life has been spent on a tractor or horseback. Marcus has also dedicated 25 years of full-time service to Gainesville Regional Utilities (GRU). In March, he plans to retire, allowing him to focus full-time on farming and ranching—doing what he loves most.

Marcus’s connection to Florida Cracker culture runs deep. His father, Buck Mitchell, was one of the founding board members of the Florida Cracker Horse Association in 1989. The Mitchell family continues to breed and own their own Cracker Horse herd, and they ride in every Great Florida Cattle Drive.

Marcus’s history with the Drive began at a young age. At just 15 years old, he was the youngest cow-hunter on the 1995 Great Florida Cattle Drive. Since then, he has remained actively involved, serving on the planning committees for the 2006, 2016, 2022, and 2026 Drives. The 2026 Drive marks his third year serving as a Circle Boss, and his leadership and experience remain invaluable.

Faith, Family, and Values

Marcus is married to his wife Aimee, a loving wife, dedicated teacher, and, as Marcus proudly says, “one hell of a hand.” Together, they have a son, Waylon, who has been active in 4-H, FFA, and FHSRA. Waylon graduated from high school in May of 2025 and now works full-time on Aimee’s family farm. Aimee and Waylon have both participated in the past two Great Florida Cattle Drives, making this a true family tradition.

Faith is central to the Mitchell family’s life. They believe God has a strong presence in Florida’s farming and ranching communities. The Mitchell’s consider it a true privilege to serve Him through their stewardship of the land.

Much like A Land Remembered, Marcus believes the Great Florida Cattle Drive is one of the best ways to experience old Florida.
Though the land has changed, its beauty, character, and history remain—ready to be seen from the saddle.

We appreciate Marcus serving at the 2026 green circle boss!
